The Downs Arabian Club Inc's 12th Annual Youth and Non-Professional Show was held at the Laidley Showgrounds in southeast Queensland on July 28. The judges were Dick Collyer and Kim Burnes.
This show maintains consistent entries, each year giving newcomers their very first horse show experience. It was great to see professional trainers on hand throughout the day to assist with stewarding and moral support for the competitors. The Youth and Non-Pro Show features Professional Encouragement Awards, chosen by the stewards and marshalls on the day for the riders and handlers that demonstrate excellent sportsmanship, consideration of their horse, perseverance and a positive attitude.
The high point awards are always hotly contested and this year saw 2017 Newbie Award winner Eshli Denysenko return with Andlyn Park Partyboy to win High Point 9 years and under. Tanisha McCuin won the 10 -13 year division with her partbred gelding Millawarah Mendelssohn and Jessica Fedrick won the 14 – 17 year division for the second time in a row riding partbred gelding Ellabre Debonaire. The Non-Pro division was again won by Stephanie Sammes with her lovely palomino partbred gelding Chevralea Golden Cruise.
