Mackay and District Arabian Club held their Annual Show on the 24th-25th September at the Maryborough Showgrounds in Queensland. The weather was perfect and there was a full show program that included fantastic youth classes that were fully supported.
The day started out with some top quality young Purebreds who handled the relaxed atmosphere beautifully and were very well behaved inside and outside the ring. These little gems were followed by some really quality mature horses throughout the day.
The Derivatives were to follow and they didn’t disappoint with all catergories accounted for: Anglos, Quarabs, Partbreds, Half Arabian, Arabian Riding Pony, Arabian Pony, Arabian Stockhorse and Arabian Warmblood. There was also plenty of colour amongst them to keep everyone happy.
A night program was included with a fantastic lineup of Pure and Derivative horses vying for the freestyle workout championship ... everyone gave it their all with some great soundtracks. Our judges Narelle Kinnear from NSW judged the open ring and Kaye Slattery from Queensland was in charge of the youth ring – these judges did a wonderful job. Both judges resided over the night program judging and it was a close race but an eventual deserving winner was found in Hollie Webster with her beautiful Artistry MI – Champion Freestyle.
Next were the liberty horses – this is always a fun class and with the horses left to do their thing we were treated to some really nice moving horses who were happy to show off for their owners. The winner of the Purebred Liberty was the showy mare Natham Park Just So Charming owned by Lesley Cornford and the winner of the Derivative Liberty was the very big moving grey Sanjoy Shakira owned by Sandra Thompson. The liberty winners were presented with amazing paintings done by a local artist – Tammy Martin of Painted Brush Studios – these paintings are beautiful.
Sunday started off again with fantastic weather and out came the saddle horses from experienced to just starting their saddle careers. There was plenty of fabulous horse flesh to look at and some really lovely movers. Supreme Ridden Exhibit Purebred went to Fames Phantom MI with Christine Hellyer and the Supreme Ridden Exhibit Derivative went to Just Magnetic with Petrina Gear.
Pen in next year’s date for 15-16th September 2018 for a great weekend away, we would love to see you there .. and bring the kids.
